We were delighted to see Oaks Sport Horses founder Alice Cameron featured as the first Australian guest on the international podcast Big Talk For Breeders.
Hosted by Michael Doherty, the podcast explores the stories, decisions and experiences behind successful sport horse breeding programs. In Episode 42, Alice discusses the development of Oaks Sport Horses, which began approximately 20 years ago, and the journey that has seen Oaks-bred horses compete at the highest level around the world.
The achievements of these horses include Oaks Redwood, ridden by Billy Raymont, and Yandoo Oaks Constellation, ridden by Jamie Kermond, representing Australia at the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon.
Alice’s daughter, Hilary Scott, later partnered the home-bred mare Oaks Milky Way at the 2022 World Championships in Herning before the pair went on to represent Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The episode also reflects on the continuing success of the Oaks breeding program in Australia. Oaks Ventriloquist, ridden by Tom McDermott, and Oaks Abracadabra, ridden by Emma Collins, both won FEI World Cup qualifiers before securing a memorable first and second place for Oaks-bred horses in the Australian Senior Championship.
It was a privilege for Alice to share the Oaks story with an international breeding audience and to reflect on two decades of producing horses that continue to make us proud.
